I feel like I have packed so many times, even to take a trip to see family, that I shouldn’t have to make a list anymore, but inevitably if I don’t, I forget something. So, these are 10 things I feel are most important for any trip and I always take them with me in my carry-on.

Before we get into the items you should take on your trip, let’s first discuss the carry-on bag itself. You want to make sure that its measurements meet airline regulations. You also want to think about what you need to put in it and the convenience it offers for things you will need to get to right away or often. I love having a small luggage bag to I can put my purse in it and have everything I need for the trip convenient.

Ok, so let’s get to that list of what you need to take:

  1. Medicine– this is probably the most important thing you can’t forget if you have to take daily medication. If you have it in your carry-on, you will know that it will get to your destination with you. I found that an am/pm 7-day medicine case works really well.
  2. One pair of underwear and a shirt. Just in case your luggage doesn’t get where you are going, you at least have a change of clothes. I usually wear jeans on the plane because you can pretty much wear them anywhere and I take an extra shirt so I have a couple of outfits if my luggage doesn’t make it
  3. Toiletry bag- Here is where I put all those things that I need to get ready in the morning and for bed. I put toothbrush and toothpaste, hairbrush, make-up, a small lotion, and anything else I might need right away in case I can’t get to a store when I arrive at my destination.
  4. Chargers and cords– we can’t forget these!! Having to buy new ones can get expensive, so I always make sure to have extras when I travel—also, a back-up battery charger.
  5. Small purse– I know this isn’t for everyone, but most airlines nowadays count your purse as a carry-on, so I just pack a small one with my wallet and phone, so I have them with me.
  6. Electronics– whether this be a Kindle, i-pad, or whatever you use, make sure they go on the plane with you. The last thing you want is for them to be in your luggage across the country from you.
  7. Earphones/earbuds– whatever type you use, and there are many out there, they come in handy when traveling.
  8. Password list– make a list of your most important passwords. You never know when you might need to log on an account and don’t have the password.
  9. Phone list– List on paper, the most important phone numbers that you have. These should be the people you would need to contact if you lost your phone and needed them. It’s a good idea to always have at least one- or two people’s phone numbers with you in case you lose your phone, or it dies. Not fun when you can’t remember their number.
  10. Lastly, though not something you can’t live without, is your pajamas. At least if you don’t have your other clothes, you can at least sleep comfortably.
