I know that whenever I think back about some of our vacations, I wish I could remember the names of those restaurants, stores, towns, etc. that we visited but I just can’t figure it out. I always think I’ll remember this and then I don’t write it down or take a picture of the name and a few years later it just won’t come to me. So, I’m working on getting better at this and thought I would share with you some of the things I’ve started to do.

Pictures

Of course, pictures are a great way to do this, and I do tend to take a lot of pictures! I’ve found that I really love my Canon Power Shot. It not only has Zoom, but also takes videos. Now, I’m not a great photographer but I have found that using this camera helps make my pictures more focused and the videos are great for memories. It is a great compact camera with a carrying case. I didn’t have a carry case for my old camera, and I would find that when it was packed inevitably it would turn itself on and when I got to my destination, the battery would be dead. This camera is also a great size to carry without the case and is made so that turning itself on is almost impossible. It fits really well in my little purse or pocket.

Of course if you take all of these pictures and would like to keep them in hard form and not on your computer or iCloud, you will need somewhere to store them. I found that I really like picture boxes because they can keep the pictures standing up and sorted.

Journaling

So, everyone knows taking pictures helps save memories, but how many times have you looked at a picture and can’t remember where you were or what was going on that you wanted to remember? I have so many times, so I found keeping a journal has really helped in not only remembering but is a great way to write my thoughts and specifics about something so when I look back it really brings happy memories. IYou can put all sorts of information in a journal before and after the trip. I usually do a lot of this when I get back to our room so I can make sure I don’t forget anything.

The other thing I have found to be useful is a small notepad that can fit in my pocket or purse. I use this to jot quick notes about something that I want to put in my journal. I found this really useful when we go on road trips. I can write the names of all the small towns we’re going through and if I take a picture from the car, I put a quick note in here of what it was I took a picture of. You don’t need anything fancy for quick notes just something you access easily.

Keeping Memories

The last thing I have been doing is picking up objects to put in our memory box. Now this can be anything that reminds you of a place. One thing we keep is the little water bottles that you get in your hotel room. Most of the time these have the hotel label on them. Another thing you can pick up is the pen or notepad they have in the rooms. Usually, these also have the name of the hotel on them. We love checking out new casinos, and if the casino gives back a ticket rather than changing it, I’ll try to get a really small amount and keep that ticket. Brochures from tours are always great to keep. You get the idea. I started keeping ours in a photo box, but now we have a lot of bigger items, so I decided to move up to a pretty storage crate. I found this one and I really like it.

Conclusion

There are so many ways to save your memories, these are just some of the ones that I use. The most important thing is to use a method that fits you and how you want to remember your trip.I hope this has given you some ideas on ways to keep your memories alive!! We love sharing our adventures with you and hope to inspire you to find your adventures!
